Ancestry, a worldwide pioneer in genealogy, has announced its plans to acquire Geneanet, a top-notch French genealogy company. Ancestry has a vast treasure of over 30 billion records from more than 80 countries, assisting customers to uncover unique aspects of their family history. The specific terms of this deal are yet to be revealed.

Geneanet boasts a thriving European member base exceeding 4 million, operational in more than 25 countries and available in ten different languages. The blending of Geneanet’s communal, no-cost family tree platform with Ancestry’s vast subscriber base and unparalleled historical records will pave the way for more individuals worldwide to delve into their family history.

Ancestry, already possessing the largest collection of European records, is also focusing on the digitization and classification of a national collection of French historical data. This includes the comprehensive French census and birth, marriage, and death records that will soon be accessible. The initiative fast-tracks family history discoveries and cultivates connections between people in France and individuals worldwide with French lineage.

“We’re excited to welcome Geneanet into the Ancestry family. We’re keen on working collaboratively to expand our worldwide community enabling more folks to discover, create, and connect with their family history,” said Deb Liu, CEO and President of Ancestry. She also showed commitment to continued investment in Geneanet’s transparent tree-building platform and support its community’s spirit of volunteerism.

“This acquisition marks an exciting evolution for both Geneanet and its community. We’ll continue to stick with our business model and focus on building a community fueled by engagement and passion. Our members will certainly reap great benefits from Ancestry’s expansive record collections and international network. This will assist them in constructing their family trees, getting in touch with previously unknown relatives, and sharing their family sagas,” shared Jacques Le Marois, Founder and CEO of Geneanet. He expressed his enthusiasm on orchestrating the upcoming chapter along with Ancestry and looking forward to an active part in the company’s future.

Upon finalization, Geneanet will function as a self-governing enterprise within the Ancestry conglomerate of companies. Founder and CEO of Geneanet, Jacques Le Marois, will maintain his leading role of the Geneanet website and community.
