Despite being the world’s most attended live family history conference, the global crisis led RootsTech to reimagine itself as a purely virtual platform in 2020, 2021, and 2022, and as a perennial online learning resource. This lead to exceptional growth, with the digital platform brimming with eager attendees from around the globe. The reintroduction of the live option in 2023 is set to further fuel this excitement.
According to Jonathan Wing, creative manager for RootsTech, the growth brought by the switch to virtual conferencing was a blessing in disguise. “Realizing the widespread global interest in ancestry exploration reiterates our belief in our mission. Our platform now has a significantly larger reach and has expanded the RootsTech family,” he says.

What to Anticipate at RootsTech 2023
2023 will mark the 13th year of this global convocation. Over the years, innovation has always been our compass. The key focus for the 2023 event is blending the strengths of both virtual and in-person experiences.
“It would be a mistake to imagine these as two separate events unfolding simultaneously,” argues Wing. “We’re making active efforts to connect the virtual and live experiences, enabling virtual attendees to partake in some of the live activities.”
